Israeli Responsible CO2 Arena
Moderator: Neta Ahituv

11:35-13:30
Carbon offsets are usually achieved through financial support for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the short or long term. The most common type of offset projects is an investment in renewable energy projects and forestry. Carbon offsets have gained momentum mainly among consumers in Western countries who have become aware of an energy-intensive and consumer-intensive economy’s negative environmental impacts. However, it is crucial to promote carbon offsets only while efforts for reduction are being invested. It is clear to us that measuring the organization's environmental impact is a vital need in the new world and the impact assessment process is complex and requires a complex infrastructure that involves several shareholders.
The purpose of the session is to discuss the main challenges, such as - how will the carbon footprint measuring and offsetting tools be made available to businesses in Israel. Additionally, raise awareness among Israeli companies about the possibilities of reducing and offsetting carbon emissions, and promote the business sector’s leadership by encouraging investment in environmental projects. The session will promote a discussion on creating a digital arena that will offer a variety of tools for implementing offsets and carbon reduction. Including a variety of offsetting projects according to fixed and clear parameters that will be based on transparency principles; a professional advisory / accompanying team and a uniform index for calculating offsets. Offsetting alone is not sustainable enough. Therefore, the proposed platform will constitute a complementary outline for actions to reduce GHG emissions. The purpose of the platform is on one hand, to raise awareness, shorten processes for companies, give environmental ventures that need investment, exposure, save government resources and built-in third-party control. On the other hand, avoid double offsetting on the same project. The vision for the establishment of the arena take into account all stakeholders’ need, will bring value to all partners and of course be sustainable.

Innovation and collaborations for environmental initiatives
Moderator: Neta Ahituv

16:00-17:30
Israel has earned the right to be called the "start-up nation" following the success of many Israeli start-ups that have established themselves in the international arena as pioneers in several areas, including cyber, medical systems, agriculture, biotechnology, security, water desalination, and more. However, in order to solve environmental issues and problems - the quality of human capital, technological capabilities, entrepreneurial culture, and bold innovation will not succeed alone without creating collaborations between and within sectors. One of the challenges facing the transition to a circular economy-based market is the need for cooperation in several stages along the way. Sometimes, to solve an environmental problem or create a truly optimized process, various collaborations must be initiated in order to ensure an effective and comprehensive solution. In the session, we will present innovative case studies of solutions in the field of waste treatment, creative collaborations between sectors and discuss industrial symbiosis projects.

Solutions for lower transportation footprint
Moderator: Michal Reut-Gelbart

17:30-18:30
Roads and parking in Israel are scarce resources, while a growing number of people are interested in using them. Israel is significantly behind in relation to many countries in the Western world regarding the transportation situation and is considered the most congested country among the OECD countries. The development of mass transit infrastructure takes a long time, and meanwhile, the congestion of roads is increasing. What’s more, public transport is clogged in a traffic jams which is one of the with very few other mobile alternatives for private vehicles. Various studies from recent years estimate that congestion leads to an economic loss of about 50 billion NIS a year because of productive worker hours deficit, an increase in car accidents, and air pollution. As a result of traffic congestion, Israeli labor productivity is about 24% lower than the OECD average.
The increasing transport load along with population growth leads to severe environmental burdens, such as poor air quality, especially in the city center, and significant damage to the quality and life of people suffering from respiratory diseases. The session will focus on the burning need to adopt immediate, non-infrastructure solutions to reduce nonefficient transportation. The potential means to achieve are diverse: hybrid remote working setup, micromobility, collaborative solutions such as carpooling, and more ideas that have been successfully implemented in the past year. These methods might allow the acceleration of the expansion of these applications in other places. The purpose of the session is to get acquainted with a variety of successful study cases and projects implemented over the past year and to encourage more companies to adopt and implement them in order to deal with the negative effects of transportation.
